About the Hotel

Beaufort Square, Chepstow, United Kingdom, NP16 5EP

The Beaufort Hotel is the oldest continuously trading hotel in South Wales, located in the heart of Chepstow, a historic border town. With an architectural charm reminiscent of a 16th century coaching inn, it offers modern amenities. It serves as an ideal base for exploring nearby attractions, including the Wye Valley and Chepstow Castle.

Location

Situated on the River Wye's edge, Chepstow serves as a strategic point for exploring historical sites, including Tintern Abbey and Raglan Castle. The hotel is approximately 28 miles from Bristol and easily accessible via major motorways. The nearby Chepstow racecourse offers year-round equestrian events, and various golf courses are within a short drive.

Rooms

The hotel offers 25 en-suite rooms, ranging in size and style, some featuring original oak beams. Each room comes equipped with a flat-screen TV, tea and coffee making facilities, and free Wi-Fi. Accessibility is available with options for ground floor accommodation, but the property lacks an elevator which may pose a challenge for some guests.

Eat & Drink

Dining at The Beaufort Hotel features a restaurant that serves traditional British classics, focusing on local farm ingredients. The bar offers a wide selection of beverages, including draught beers, traditional ales, and fine wines, with unique bin ends available for guests seeking variety. A popular lunch menu and Sunday roast are also highlighted.

Leisure & Business

The hotel caters to business travelers with conference facilities and provides a peaceful environment, including a lounge bar that attracts both locals and guests. Wedding and event hosting is available in their Florence Court banqueting suite, accommodating up to 120 guests for private occasions.

The hotel had both positives and negatives. The rooms were a bit dated and average but clean, though one of the single beds had a totally wrecked mattress. The service was excellent, with very friendly and accommodating staff, even helping with parking in challenging weather. The location, although central, had some noise issues that affected sleep. The dining experience varied, with some days being better than others. The facilities were generally good.

I had a mixed experience at the hotel. The rooms were suitable for one person, clean, tidy, and well-equipped, but noise from the stairs affected my sleep. However, the room was spacious, very comfortable, and had plenty of tea and coffee. The service was friendly and efficient, although there was confusion about my booking. The location was second to none, right in the middle of town. The dining experience was a hit or miss with some meals being delicious while others lacked in quality. Overall, a decent stay with room for improvement.
